Students in grades 2-8 at St. Anastasia Catholic School participate in TerraNova3 and InView tests each spring.
The TerraNova, Third Edition (TN3), is a norm referenced assessment that provides precise, norm-referenced achievement scores, a full complement of criterion-referenced objective mastery scores, and performance-level information in the core subject areas of Reading, Math, Language, Science and Social Studies.
The InView test is a cognitive abilities aptitude test that measures verbal reasoning, sequences, analogies, and quantitative reasoning. Teachers can use InView results to reliably measure skills and abilities important for academic success. These tests can also help plan effective school programs , identify possible learning disabilities, and screen students for placement into special programs.
It is important to recognize that standardized testing, while valuable, constitutes only a small part of the school’s evaluation program. It should be recognized that standardized testing serves some purposes better than others, that there are limitations and strengths in each of the various techniques used to measure student progress, and that assessment is a means to an end and not an end in itself. The following is a list of several uses of the data from the Terra Nova tests used by our faculty:
